The BC Safety Council is proud to deliver Emergency Scene Traffic Control Instructor certification for Fire Departments throughout the province. This train the trainer program was developed by the BC Safety Council and the BC Fire Training Officers Association. It has been endorsed by the Fire Chiefs’ Association and the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
According to OH&S Regulation 18.4(1)(c), it says, that “a person assigned to be a traffic control person is adequately trained in a manner acceptable to the Board”. This new regulation applies to first responders including Fire Department personnel, who may be required direct traffic at an emergency scene.
The Emergency Scene Traffic Control course offered through the BC Safety Council is the only program currently developed that has been approved by WorkSafeBC and “accepted for persons performing traffic control in emergency situations”.
