Brief overview of course
Our association’s training railcar (CCPX 911) will be present in Courtenay, during a tour of the car attendees will have the opportunity to learn about: railcars in general, pressure and non-pressure cars, train safety, tankcar valves and fittings, railcar construction, et cetera. The car is designed to be seen from ground level, from inside and from the top, the course is best described as railcar familiarization or awareness.

Short BIO:
Marty has been employed by Canada Colors and Chemicals in the Petrochemical Industry for over 25 years and in management with this chemical producer/distributor for over 20 years. He is currently the Manager of Western Region Operations and is based in Delta, BC.
He is the Chairperson for 3 Canadian Chemical Producers’ Association committees, BC TransCAER™ , National TransCAER™ and the Safety Training Tank Car committee. All 3 committees share a common goal, “To encourage chemical safety through education”.
Marty has an intense interest in encouraging First Responders to obtain as much knowledge about Hazardous Materials as possible. Firefighters need to be able to arrive at the scene of a Dangerous Goods incident aware of how to determine immediate risks and how to protect themselves and the general public from harm.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods Specialist for Western Canada. 32 year of
railway experience, Member of the Association of American Railroads Tank Car
Committee, Member of Canadian General Standards Board Tank Car Committee, Member
of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Emergency Response Operating Committee, Hazardous
Materials Technician, Advanced Tank Car Specialist, Involved in Hazmat emergency
response for more than14 years. Trained in all facet of emergency response to
chemical incidents including rail and intermodal equipment. Received training
in emergency response to terrorist incidents with the US DOT and Transport Canada
for CBRN (E). Perform compliance inspection for chemical plants on behalf of
the AAR Bureau of Explosives.
